Please tell give us a brief Introduction of yourself.

My name is Mami Sue! I’m from Okayama, Japan, but I used to live in New York. I moved to Tokyo after I moved out of the states. I’ve been in Tokyo for 6 years. I started doing music when I was 3, and I started dancing when I was 5. For almost 30 years I’ve been performing, singing and dancing.  But, after I came to Tokyo, somehow I got a chance to act. I tried acting, and I was like, wow… this is for me! I love acting, and I started acting more and more.

What are some of your hobbies?

I love traveling with… great people. I love going to the countryside, and I love nature.

What inspired you to become an actor?

I was just performing, and one day, one of the directors of a play came to me and handed me a script, and asked, “Do you want to try?”. I’m the type of person where I’ll try anything if it comes. And then, if I don’t like it, I quit… but if I like it, I keep going. I tried acting in 2014, so it was only 2-3 years ago that I performed at my first play. I really enjoy it, I got feedback from the audience that they really loved it. So I thought, I should train myself more. That’s the beginning of me acting.

How do you feel HDP have improved your acting skills?

For me, I feel like I’ve found myself more. I’ve found a lot of things that was deep inside me… not what I thought was me. A lot of different things came out in my subconscious, and that became my tool. I found more tools to act. It’s all about knowing myself more, I could use my ability more. Hollywood Debut Project really improved my skills, my technique, and I also grew as a person.

Who is your favorite actor and why?

My favorite actor is probably Audrey Hepburn. She’s lovely.

What is your dream movie role?

I love playing evil characters… evil, dark, and mean! Characters with a lot of darkness inside.

What’s the best thing you took out of HDP?

Using those techniques they taught me… even outside of this workshop, when I get a role, I find the character’s needs. Also, reading the script, and finding what I need to bring out or deliver. I wasn’t good reading at scripts, or understanding the core message. But through the Ivana Chubbuck method, I learned to read deeply.

Who would you recommend this to?

For actors, of course! But also… just regular people who are not trying to be an actor. I think this can improve your life, as a person. I recommend it to everyone.

Would you join the project again?

Yes, I would!
